As well as last Friday's confirmation of an outbreak of bird flu on a commercial farm in Montenegro, in Brazil's southernmost state of Rio Grande do Sul, authorities also confirmed a case in a black-necked-swan in the town of Sapucaia do Sul, about 50 kilometers (31.07 miles) from Montenegro.

Japan suspended imports of poultry meat from the city of Montenegro and live poultry from the broader Brazilian state of Rio Grande do Sul last Friday following an outbreak of bird flu, an official at Japan's agriculture ministry said on Monday.

Brazil, one of the world’s largest producers and exporters of poultry, has confirmed the country’s first bird flu outbreak on a commercial farm.
