A crowd crush at a soccer match in the west African country of Guinea has left at least 56 people dead and many others injured, authorities said Monday.

The clashes occurred during a game between the Labe and Nzerekore soccer teams in Nzerekore, the second-largest city in the West African nation.

An unknown number of others in the country’s largest southern city were injured when security tried to stop clashes over a disputed penalty,
