Shortly before the second impeachment vote of South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol, the chairman of the ruling party has said he's in favour of removing Yoon - a change from his previous position. But there are no signs that the president is willing to go quietly.

South Korea's president defended his martial law decree as an act of governance and denied rebellion charges, vowing Thursday to “fight to the end” in the face of attempts to impeach him and intensifying investigations into last week’s dramatic move.

On Saturday, the initial impeachment effort failed after Yoon's People Power Party boycotted the session, preventing quorum to hold the vote. To impeach Yoon, at least 200 of the parliament's 300 lawmakers must vote in support of the move. The ruling party holds 108 seats in the legislative body.
