NEW YORK — Both Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone called the move to designate DJ LeMahieu for assignment on Wednesday a “tough” decision. LeMahieu had been in pinstripes since 2019, a well-respected and hard-working figure in the Yankees’ clubhouse.
Cashman pointed to pitching as his biggest area of concern, considering the Yankees are without three starters from last year’s World Series rotation.
The New York Yankees designated DJ LeMahieu for assignment, cutting him loose with nearly two years left on his deal.
