The Apollo Theater is an American temple of memories and untapped possibilities. Now, it is the first institution to be celebrated by the Kennedy Center Honors.

The North Shore Community Theatre secured 80 seats from Manhattan's Apollo, which removed them as part of a renovation.

It's the first institution to ever be honored by the Kennedy Center. From James Brown to Bruno Mars, for 90 years the Apollo Theater has provided a platform for famous and rising stars alike.

The stage of the Apollo Theater has seen such stars as Dionne Warwick, James Brown, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Wonder, and 10-year-old Gabriela Wilson (who today is better known as H.E.R.).

The iconic Apollo Theater in Harlem is preparing to go dark for more than a year, as crews get ready to begin the venue’s first large-scale renovation in its 91-year history.

The Apollo Stages at Victoria Theater include two new flexible theaters—one with 99 seats and one with 199 seats. There will also be retail shops to be announced in the building as well.
