Apple is planning to remove the 3.5mm headphone jack on the next-generation iPhone in favor of an all-in-one Lightning connector, according to often-reliable Japanese website Mac Otakara.
It’s important to note that this adapter will not allow for Lightning EarPods to be connected to non-Lightning devices, only for 3.5mm headphones to be connected to Lightning devices.
Even though Apple will apparently be shipping the standard 3.5mm EarPods with the iPhone 7, it could still sell Lightning-based headphones separately.
A recent leak published on Chinese social networking site Weibo suggests that Apple will ship the iPhone 7 with earpods and a 3.5mm adaptor.
