A storm system has engulfed much of the South and threatens to affect millions more as it continues to move northeast, dumping ice, snow and sleet over communities. Western North Carolina is expected to see conditions that could mean prolonged power outages.
"Hattchett," an Asheville man who is homeless, said there are simply not enough shelter beds for everyone during the winter snowstorm.
Snow, ice and other wintry precipitation hit Western North Carolina over the weekendof Saturday, Jan. 24, and into Sunday. Jan. 25, leaving more than 10,000 still without power.
