Because shiny objects seldom allow paint to bond well, use the metal brush and sandpaper to lightly scour and dull the surface till it looks lightly scratched, almost like brushed nickel.

You can easily replicate the look of brushed-steel panels with paint. I have applied it to the lower section of the wall shown here. The base coat is black latex paint in a satin finish.
