Crayola welcomed a “bluetiful” addition to its 24-count crayon box on Thursday. The crayon company announced the new shade of blue joining its color collection was called bluetiful.

I say Crayola, specifically, because unlike some other brands (especially generic), Crayola brand crayons are a well known standard size, and the colors are very standardized as well.

Friday is National Crayon Day -- but at Crayola, it will also be a farewell party. For the first time in its 100-year history, the company will retire a color from its 24-count box. That's right.

Created in 1903, the 8-count Crayola crayon box included the basics: red, orange, yellow, green, blue, violet, brown, and black. Eight colors could not begin to paint the complexity of America.
