Broken Shovels Farm Sanctuary started rehabilitating a variety of animals in 2017 after serving as a goat dairy for five years. The space, however, is now flooded with a new need.

In March 2019, the Clarks moved the sanctuary to Shermans Dale, Pennsylvania, which is now home to approximately 200 different farm animals, according to the sanctuary's website.

Every animal here is a rescue – abused, abandoned, disabled – and Zaleski has healed and protected more than 600 animals over the last 20 years, from retired racehorses to raucous roosters.
