The threat of massive waves has largely passed in Japan, the US and Russia. Countries along South America's Pacific coast, meanwhile, issued tsunami warnings and called for people to evacuate their homes.

A tsunami advisory was also issued for parts of Alaska and the entire West Coast, stretching from the California-Mexico border up to the Alaska-British Columbia border.
