The Kaio-Ken was Goku's most neglected technique prior to its resurgence in Dragon Ball Super.

Goku fights with Blue Kaio-Ken x10 power during his fights against Hit, but he also resorts to the temperamental strategy in the heroes’ fight against Fused Zamasu.

In the anime, Goku has used Kaio-Ken x20 once before. The hero used the technique against Freeza on Namek, but the villain was able to blast away the Kamehameha Goku made with the power-up.
