Horse quality hay should have less weeds in it, but those bales with little or no weeds are normally higher quality. Johnson grass is also included as something to watch out for in bales.

Desirable horse hay is clean, consistent, properly harvested and attractive. Hay should be free from debris, dirt, dust, toxins, fungi, mold, insects, weeds or any substances that hinder digestion.

Bales weigh between 110 and 140 pounds each, depending on the variety of hay. Also in stock are animal bedding, horse, pig and lamb feed; chicken, quail, parakeet and gamebird feed; dog and cat food.
