A fiction firmly rooted in fact, “Green Border” dramatizes the crisis through different players — migrants, guards and activists — converged in and around the border of Poland and Belarus.

“Green Border” also examines the everyday instances of cowardice and fear that perpetuate this migrant crisis. It’s the farmer who shows Leila kindness but then reports her to the cops.

This happens selectively in “Green Border” as well. It’s how the world experiences so much tragedy, near or far: From a distance but not really, through a car window or cellphone screen.
