Peter Carlsson, a former executive at Tesla Inc., founded Northvolt AB in October 2016 seeking to shift the balance of battery-making power from Asia to Europe.

Northvolt said Friday that Carlsson will remain on the board and that the search for a new CEO has started. He has led the company since 2016.

Northvolt CEO Peter Carlsson, who co-founded and led the company since its inception in 2016, has also stepped aside, but will remain as board member and senior advisor.

Peter Carlsson, who co-founded Northvolt and led the firm since its inception in 2016, will step aside to take on a role as senior advisor, the company said. He remains a member of Northvolt's board.

Peter Carlsson is the chief executive of Northvolt, a European battery manufacturer. He was previously global head of sourcing and supply chain at Tesla.

When Peter Carlsson joined the "tremendously competent team that Elon had built" at Tesla in the summer of 2011, he had more than a decade of experience as an operations and supply chain professional.

Now Aftonbladet reports that former CEO Peter Carlsson, and several other executives, will be questioned over the employee's death, alleged to have been the result of workplace safety violations.
