Pie r Square - which gets its name from the mathematical equation used to find the surface area of a circle - offers all different types of pies, including fruit, cream, custard and savory varieties.

This is Pie R Squared, a math tutoring program with attitude. It is the brainchild of Beth Segers, a Wall Street financial analyst and a 30-year veteran tutor at Nativity Prep in Jamaica Plain.

Pie R Squared is available Monday through Thursday from 3pm to 7pm. The students come not just to get a great meal but most importantly to get ahead in life.

“Pi r squared,” the son said, quoting the equation for finding the area of a circle, where pi is the numerical constant approximately equal to 3.14, and r is the length of the radius.
