J.C. Trujillo, 75, got rodeo fever at age six when he won $10 in a calf riding competition. He went on to become a world champion and is being inducted into the National Cowboy Hall of Fame.

The Cowboy Breakfast will help kick off the 2024 San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo as an official event from 5 a.m. to 10 a.m. on Jan. 26 at 142 Gembler Road.

The cowboy is “a shorthand for independence and grit and all of these things about America,” an organizer said. “But then you combine it with Black culture, and it just wiggles your brain.” ...
