Call that a peng-win! SeaWorld San Diego welcomed an emperor penguin chick, the first time the threatened species was born in the Western Hemisphere in nearly 13 years.

Penguin Trek will be the third coaster to open in three years at SeaWorld Orlando, following on the heels of Ice Breaker and Pipeline the Surf Coaster, which debuted in May.

SeaWorld Orlando’s new Penguin Trek roller coaster also goes for the smooth factor. The attraction received mid-ride reviews of “surprisingly smooth” during media previews Monday.

Penguin Trek is now officially welcoming guests of all ages. “I’ve been looking forward to this ride since they announced it last year,” said SeaWorld visitor Andrew Kendrick.

The first emperor penguin chick hatched at SeaWorld San Diego since 2010 is set to make its first appearance soon to the general public.

An emperor penguin chick was born at SeaWorld San Diego in September, the first to be born there in 13 years, the company announced. The young bird does not yet have a name.
