Roll and Mr. McFarland detailed Mr. Johnson's time in office, including the 1949 "Revolt of the Admirals" which they explain led to Johnson's resignation at Truman's request in September of 1950.

Johnson and Austin, who are African-American, would be history-making nominees as the first Black Secretary of Defense. So, too, would Flournoy, as the first woman to run the Pentagon.
