All dog breeds, Welborn says, have whiskers. Whiskers sprout above their eyes, on their chin, and around their nose on their muzzle. Their color and texture depends on fur color.

Many rodents use whiskers to feel their way around their world. But rats appear to take this one step further, using special, antennae-like whiskers above their eyes to sense subtle air movement.

Maybe with ink that’s water-based, that would wash out and wouldn’t mess up the color of the whiskers. For now, I keep the jar of cat whiskers in my bedroom, in view.
