X says it is creating a new profile label to signify accounts that are parodies of a person or entity. The company says it “designed these labels to increase transparency and to ensure that users are not deceived into thinking such accounts belong to the entity being parodied.”

To avoid violating X's Authenticity policy, users can now add a 'Parody' label to the fake accounts they create.

X is trying to clamp down on impersonation on the platform with a new label for parody accounts. But the label isn't mandatory yet, which could make it largely toothless.

X will start adding parody labels to accounts and posts as the company tries to add some form of transparency to the platform.

Currently, it's up to users to label their accounts as parodies. They can do so by heading over to Settings and Privacy > Your account > Account information and selecting the "Parody, commentary and fan account" option.
