The Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) has forecast more spells of rain in Chennai and districts, including Villupuram, Kallakurichi, Tiruvarur, and Thanjavur.

Fog remains an issue in several states as it is affecting the visibility for transportations. At least 24 flights were affected due to low visibility at the Kolkata airport in West Bengal on Wednesday.

Chennai: Persistent heavy rain across Tamil Nadu has triggered an orange alert in 16 districts, including Chennai. Additionally, a yellow alert remains in effect in 17 other districts, such as Erode and Salem.

Heavy rain in Chennai and surrounding districts has filled reservoirs to their maximum levels, prompting authorities to issue a flood alert. The Water Resources Department (WRD) has released 1,000 cusecs of water from the Poondi reservoir into the Kosasthalaiyar River as a precaution.

The IMD has also said that heavy to very heavy rains are expected in Ariyalur, Thanjavur, Tiruvarur, Pudukkottai districts along with isolated thunderstorms and lightning.
