BEAVERTON, Ore. ( KPTV /Gray News) - The winner of a multimillion-dollar Powerball jackpot has been identified. According to the Oregon Lottery, 79-year-old Abbas Shafii claimed the $328.5 million prize money that was won in a January drawing.
A Powerball ticket sold in Illinois won $1 million but just missed the $219 million jackpot, lottery officials say. The ticket matched five winning numbers but not the Powerball in the drawing Saturday, Feb. 22, the Illinois Lottery said.
The $328.5 million Powerball jackpot from Jan. 17 has been claimed by a 79-year-old man in Beaverton, according to a news release from the Oregon Lottery. Abbas Shafii bought the winning ticket from the Beaverton Fred Meyer on Southwest Walker Road. He is taking the lump sum payout, which is $146.4 million.
