The Falcons completed a virtual interview with Steve Wilks for the their defensive coordinator position, the team announced Friday afternoon. Wilks most recently served as defensive coordinator for the 49ers in 2023 and has 16 years of NFL coaching experience.

The New York Jets agreed to terms with Steve Wilks to be their defensive coordinator, a person familiar with the situation told The Associated Press on Wednesday. Wilks is the first coordinator hired by new head coach Aaron Glenn, who was formally introduced by the Jets on Monday along with new general manager Darren Mougey.

Wilks, who replaces Jeff Ulbrich as the Jets’ defensive coordinator, also has head coaching experience. He was Arizona’s coach in 2018 and was fired after the Cardinals finished 3-13. Wilks also was Carolina’s interim coach when he replaced the fired Matt Rhule in 2022 and went 6-6 with the Panthers.

Aaron Glenn is starting to fill out his coaching staff and is bringing Steve Heiden from Detroit to be the Jets' offensive line coach, according to a report from NFL Media's Tom Pelissero. Heiden, 48, has 12 years of coaching experience in the NFL and spent the past two seasons with the Lions as a tight ends coach.
