Microsoft is adding an even darker mode to Word soon. The dark mode update means the canvas will now have an option to switch to a dark mode, instead of the bright white that currently exists today.

Word users can turn on Dark mode in the canvas by going to: File > Account > Office Theme > Black. As expected, after the setting is changed, the previously white page color goes dark grey or black.

Dark canvas mode swaps pages over to match the dark background of the rest of the app. Microsoft started testing dark canvas mode in Word on Windows in February.

To change a black background to white in Microsoft Word, open Word, go to the Design tab, and select Page Color. Now, from the dropdown, select the White color.
