MENOMONIE, Wis. (WEAU) - Art can be an outlet to be creative and make something new, all while having fun. At the Menomonie Area Senior Center, art is doing more to help those with dementia.

Art programs for people living with dementia have existed for years in museums and art institutions around the world, including at New York’s Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) and Studio Museum in Harlem.

Art speaks without words, which is why visual art -- art that can be seen, especially on walls to add color and design to a space -- can be so important for individuals who have dementia.

In just a few hours a week, a Paramount Arts program sparked camaraderie, conversation and connection among people with dementia and their care providers.
