A volcano erupted in southwest Iceland on Wednesday (July 16) belching smoke and flows of glowing hot yellow and orange lava, the latest in a series of outbreaks near the capital in recent years.

LAVA HOT SPRINGS — Kolleen DeGraff came to Lava Hot Springs with plans to enjoy retirement in the scenic destination town.

The molten lava lake is roughly the size of two football fields. "It's like looking into the surface of the sun,” Mackley said in a news release.
