Pre-pandemic, Navy Pier had that northwest corner and the length of its north side open to fishing and there were even special parking rates before 10 a.m. for anglers.

Pier fishing is also an excellent choice for the more casual anglers and is a great way to introduce the kids to fishing with a good chance of success, especially in the summertime.

During a recent weekday afternoon visit, about two dozen people were fishing from the pier, along with just as many sightseers. Permits for a day are $8, $16 if you want to fish for king mackerel.
