Why Seasonal Forecasts Are More Accurate Than Ever
Weather experts have something remarkable to celebrate right now. Our ability to predict conditions over the coming season has greatly advanced in just the past 20 years.The science behind seasonal forecasting has undergone a quiet revolution that's touching everything from farming decisions to energy planning.
Forecast maps issued by the Climate Prediction Center (CPC) show what weather conditions the U.S. can expect over the November to January period. The CPC previously announced that La Niña conditions had been detected and were expected to continue from December 2025 to February 2026.
The Maine-based publication, not to be confused with the New Hampshire-based Old Farmer’s Almanac, has been active for 208 years, since 1818, and is known for its seasonal weather predictions, natural life hacks, astronomy and full moon and gardening calendars.
