Ghana is following in the footsteps of other African countries which allow visa-free entry to all African nations.

Figures in 2023 show that 28% of all intra-Africa travel by Africans was visa-free, a rise from 27% in 2022 and 20% in 2016.

Ghana will allow visa-free entry to citizens of all African countries starting in early 2025. The move, approved by President Nana Akufo-Addo in December, makes Ghana the fifth African country to open its borders to all holders of African passports.

In his final State of the Nation Address before stepping down on 6 January, Ghana’s President Nana Akufo-Addo announced a historic visa-free travel policy for all African passport holders.

All African passport holders are now able to visit Ghana without needing a visa, outgoing President Nana Akufo-Addo has said. He announced the plan last month but in his final state-of-the-nation address on Friday he said that the policy had come into effect at the beginning of the year.
