Chain controls, interstate closures and flooded roads were an obstacle for drivers Wednesday morning as significant wet weather rolled into Northern California.

Heavy snow and multiple spinouts Thursday morning had officials holding all traffic on Interstate 80 at the California and Nevada state line in the Sierra as a Winter Storm Warning went into effect.

The KCRA 3 weather team issued an Impact Day for the Valley and Foothills because of how rain will affect outdoor activities and travel. In the Sierra, we issued an Alert Day because travel is not recommended due to heavy snow.
