A Virginia Lottery player won $150,000 in the Powerball drawing on Oct. 9, as the nation focused on the $1.55 billion jackpot.
The six-figure winning ticket was sold prior to last Wednesday’s Powerball drawing at the Circle K convenience store/gas station at 1001 62 nd Ave., according to the release. The ticket matched four white ball numbers and the red Powerball number, a feat that has odds of 1-in-913,129 of occurring, officials said.
The profits from lottery ticket sales benefit K-12 public education in Virginia. Since the drawing on Aug. 3, there have been ten Powerball wins in Virginia of $100,000 or more.
As of 5 p.m., Virginia Lottery confirmed $2,837,909 in Powerball sales statewide just on Friday. More than $1.1 million in Powerball tickets were sold just between 2 pm and 5 pm.
As of 2 p.m., Virginia Lottery said Powerball sales totaled $3,578,775 – that’s more than $1.9 million in sales just between 11:00 a.m. and 2:00 p.m. The odds of winning are 1 in 292 million ...

The Virginia Lottery announced Jennifer Helfman won $100,000 when she matched four of the first five winning numbers and the Powerball number in the Dec. 7 drawing.
