The New York Yankees suffered an embarrassing blunder during Saturday's game against the Chicago Cubs on account of some sloppy plays from Oswald Peraza and Jazz Chisholm, who'll no doubt want this one back.

Thing is, the Yankees were giving off the vibe of a locomotive rolling down the tracks. They’d annihilated the Cubs on Friday, 11-0, and had their best pitcher, Max Fried, on the mound on Saturday. Reason enough to think momentum was on their side, right? Not quite.

NEW YORK — Both Yankees general manager Brian Cashman and manager Aaron Boone called the move to designate DJ LeMahieu for assignment on Wednesday a “tough” decision. LeMahieu had been in pinstripes since 2019, a well-respected and hard-working figure in the Yankees’ clubhouse.

Cashman pointed to pitching as his biggest area of concern, considering the Yankees are without three starters from last year’s World Series rotation.

The New York Yankees designated DJ LeMahieu for assignment, cutting him loose with nearly two years left on his deal.
