Big South member Longwood announced Sunday night it was promoting Thomas from assistant coach to head men’s basketball coach, giving him his first college head-coaching job.

Ryan Odom has made his first hire to his UVA men's basketball staff, selecting Longwood head coach Griff Aldrich to be his associate head coach.

A Roanoke native, Thomas joined the Longwood men’s basketball team in 2020 as the director of recruiting and player development and was promoted to assistant coach the next year.

Longwood is promoting assistant coach Ronnie Thomas to head coach as Griff Aldrich leaves to take a position on new Virginia coach Ryan Odom's staff.
