Khizar Hayat, a mentally ill prisoner who spent the last 16 years of his life on death row, passed away on the night of March 21, the Justice Project Pakistan (JPP) announced on Friday.
Khizar Hayat, 55, was sentenced to death in 2003 for shooting a colleague but Pakistan had a moratorium on executions at the time. In 2008 he was diagnosed with schizophrenia by government doctors.
