The Senate passed Trump’s so-called “big, beautiful bill” after a 26-hour marathon of negotiations during which Alaska Senator Lisa Murkowski, as she put it later, “struggled mightily” to soften the biggest funding blows to her state before ultimately casting a vote that guaranteed its passage.

Louisiana voted for Trump. But it also relies heavily on Medicaid benefits, which are set to face steep cuts under the president's new One Big Beautiful Bill Act.
