New York City Mayor Eric Adams is moving to shut down migrant shelter sites across the city as the flow of new arrivals begins to slow down amid a federal immigration crackdown. The Roosevelt Hotel, which has been open for nearly two years as a main intake center for migrants, is set to close in the coming months, according to Mayor Eric Adams.

Mayor Eric Adams said this week that the Roosevelt Hotel and more than 50 other migrant shelters are no longer needed and will shut by June.

Experts say it’s far from clear how would play out. The closest it’s come to happening was nearly a century ago when Gov. Franklin D. Roosevelt launched a trial against Mayor Jimmy Walker, who subsequently resigned and moved to Europe to avoid criminal prosecution.
