On Tuesday at 9:59 p.m. the NWS Wakefield VA issued an updated winter storm warning valid from Wednesday 10 a.m. until Thursday 6 p.m. The warning is for Western Currituck and Eastern Currituck as well as Northampton,

A mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain will make for an impactful winter storm in our area on Wednesday, Feb. 19.

Re-freezing could also result in black ice and slick travel conditions. Significant ice accumulations were forecast in eastern North Carolina, the National Weather Service said.

The Kinston National Guard has been preparing to help in any way needed. According to Sergeant First Class Steven Parsons, soldiers started preparations Tuesday ahead of today’s storm and already have soldiers on the ground.
