It had a four-barrel carb, dual exhausts, and higher compression, and was good for 280 hp (209 kW) for 1963-1965, and 285 hp (213 kW) for 1966 and the final year, 1967.

Dec 2, 2004 · Either you have to put an obsolete Pontiac tranny in it or cut off the chevy bellhousing and put a Pontiac bellhousing on it. Ultimately, you can make more power easier with the set-up they came with rather than dropping a heavier older engine in. I've heard of it being done but never actually seen it.

The only difference is the size of the journals in the block thus giving it the cubic inches nomenclature. Take a minute once and look at a 350, 400 and a 455 and you'll see the basic engine block for all of these cars.

Dec 16, 2006 · The '69 428 4 bolt main blocks are pretty stout. If used in a racing application the 4 bolt block is almost a "must have". The 428 2 bolt blocks are still good blocks for regular application but they are more common. The heads are what made the 428 into a brute so if you have some good heads on it then this motor can be a killer on the strip!

(casting number is on the center exhaust ports) For a lot of great information on the Injun Engine (traditional Pontiac V8), get Jim Hand's book "How to Build Max-performance Pontiac V8s".

Feb 17, 2005 · Chevy 327 is a 4" bore, 3.25" stroke, and the 350 is 4" bore, 3.48" stroke. The Pontiac 326 is 3.8188" bore and 3.75" stroke, and 350 is 3.875" bore and 3.85" stroke. Also be careful comparing 400 Pontiac with 400 Chevy (small block). While the bore and stroke are very similar, that's where the similarity ends. Nothing interchanges.

Apr 5, 2006 · There is no 12" clutch for the Pontiac. In '69, only the 10.4 was in Firebirds. The 11" job came only on "big cars" with the 428 engine. The difference between the flywheels is strictly the bolt "circle". There are a couple of flywheel "weights". We've seen both 30 and 40 lb. versions from Pontiac. For the lighter car, the 30 lb. unit is desired.
